Trump notches win at Michigan GOP convention

April 24, 2022, 10:57 AM

Trump has won what was dubbed another “battle for the soul of the Republican Party” in Michigan.

Loyalists who gathered in Grand Rapids to endorse candidates for attorney general, secretary of state and supreme court went with Trump-endorsed election deniers Matt DePerno for AG and Kristina Karamo for SOS.

From The Detroit News:

DePerno won 54% of the delegates in the second vote after falling short of the required 50% in the first round. He was locked in a tight and contentious race with former House Speaker Tom Leonard of DeWitt, who got 46% in the second vote.

Karamo got 67% of the vote in her three-way contest for secretary of state on the first ballot. State Rep. Beau LaFave of Iron Mountain received 19%, and Chesterfield Township Clerk Cindy Berry got 13%.

Rudy Guiliani, the pillow guy and Lena Epstein were on hand to shill for the pair.

They'll be the only GOP option in their respective races when it comes time to vote this fall.

We've written a lot of DePerno, but if you've never heard of Karamo, we'll let our Nancy Derringer introduce you:
