A 35-year-old Clinton Township woman was arrested Monday night in connection with spray painting a Nazi swastika on the outside wall of a Royal Oak synagogue on Woodward Avenue.

The Farmington Hills police patrol unit arrested the woman without incident and took her into custody, according to the Royal Oak Police. Authorities will present their findings for criminal charges after a review by the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office.

Her name has yet to be released.

On Friday, around 4:00 p.m., Royal Oak Police responded to the Woodward Avenue Shul at 25595 Woodward after a passerby reported graffiti on the building, according to a press release.

Officers reported seeing a swastika spray painted along with the letters “AZOV.” Azov is a military brigade in Ukraine that has been associated with far-right extremists and Nazis.

Police believe the incident happened between Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to Friday at 4:00 p.m.

The orthodox synagogue conducts Sabbath services on Friday night and Saturday.

Community activists have organized a rally outside the synagogue on Wednesday at 5 p.m. to show support for the Jewish community and protest the hateful act.
