A suspect arrested Tuesday by Detroit police in the fatal stabbing of downtown Detroit synagogue President Samantha Woll was released Friday without being charged.

His attorney Allison Kriger confirmed to Deadline Detroit Saturday morning that he'd been released,

Violet Ikonomova of the Detroit Free Press first reported that he'd been released.

The suspect was arrested Tuesday in Kalamazoo.

It's unclear if police determined that he was not the right suspect or that they simply did not have enough evidence to file charges.

The suspect was close to Woll, 40, and attended the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue where she was president. He was at her funeral and posed with her for pictures in August at the celebration for the reopening of the synagogue after a $6 million renovation.

The Detroit News reported Friday that police were reviewing an ambiguous statement by the suspect, citing four unnamed police sources.

Woll was found fatally stabbed multiple times outside her home on Oct. 21. Police believe she was stabbed inside her home, then stumbled outside and collapsed. She had attended a wedding the night before.
