FBI Investigating Allegations of Financial Shenanigans at Detroit Riverfront Conservancy

The Michigan State Police have handed over to FBI its investigation into alleged financial improprieties involving Willaim Smith, CFO of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, Crain's Detroit Business reports.

Smith has been placed on leave pending the outcome of the probe. He has been the finance leader of the organization since 2005. 

"The state police have advised us that due to the nature and complexity of the situation, they have turned the investigation over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation," Matt Cullen, chairman of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, said in an emailed statement to Crain's Tuesday.
