It's about time.

Republican Gov. Rick Snyder and Democratic challenger Mark Schauer will square off on Oct. 12 at a forum at Wayne State University at 6 p.m. before a live audience of undecided voters, according to a press release from Detroit Public Television.

Detroit Public Television, The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press will co-host the one-hour event.

Up until now, Schauer has often attacked Snyder in campaign commercials. Snyder, when he has appeared in TV ads, has taken a more positive approach. But other pro-Snyder ads, in which Snyder does not  talk directly to the audience, have attacked Schauer.

It will be interesting to see if Snyder can continue to take the high road in a debate or whether in all likelihood, he'll be forced to go after Schauer, or at least take some shots at him.

The voters will ask questions,  along with Detroit Free Press Editorial Page Editor Stephen Henderson and Detroit News Editorial Page Editor Nolan Finley.

Detroit Public TV Anchor Christy McDonald will serve as the event’s host, a release by Detroit Public Television said.

Stephen Henderson, the editorial page editor of the Free Press, and Nolan Finley, the editorial page editor of The Detroit News, are to moderate the one-hour event. The site of the 6 p.m. town hall, which is to feature a relatively unrestricted format, has yet to be determined.
