Video: Wild Ones On ATVs And Dirt Bikes Tear Up Detroit Streets

November 07, 2014, 1:03 AM

Simon Shaykhet on WXYZ-TV shows how groups of young people on ATVs and dirt bikes are taking over some Detroit streets. Police seem incapable of stopping them.

A YouTube video put Shaykhet on the trail of the crazies, who ride both during the day and night., doing "wheelies" and standing up on their vehicles. The video, shot by one of the "renegade riders," as Shaykhet calls them, appears to show the riders storming up Livernois, north and south of W. Warren.

Imagine you're driving down the road and all of a sudden half a dozen guys on dirt bikes nearly force you into an accident. It's happening more often than you think.

"They pay no heed to the rules of the road," Shaykhet says. "Red lights be damned. Here comes a cop. Punch it!"

"This thrill ride is a familiar sight to people in the neighborhoods," Shaykhet reports, and he interviews residents who have had close encounters with the riders.

Detroit police would not comment.
