Mayor Duggan Gets Behind Push to Bring Pope to Detroit

Will Pope Francis visit Detroit?

Could be a long shot.

But Mayor Mike Duggan is pushing for it.

Patricia Montemurri of the Detroit Free Press reports:

A day after Pope Francis confirmed that he plans to visit Philadelphia in September, Detroit Mayor Michael Duggan has signed a letter asking him to heed the request of Detroit Catholic schoolchildren and visit the Motor City, too.

"The letter is signed and going over to the archdiocese today," mayoral spokesman John Roach said Tuesday.

The Freep reports that students from Detroit Cristo Rey High School launched a letter-writing and social media campaign in the spring requesting that the Pope come to the Motor City.
