Watch Out for Flying Bricks in Downtown Detroit

April 30, 2012, 4:20 AM

In the old show, the "Adventures of Superman" a voice would blurt out: "Look up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Superman!"

In parts of downtown Detroit, if you look into the sky, you're more likely to see falling brick, shards of glass and dangling fire escapes.

Channel 7's Heather Catallo reports on the problem and lists the seven most dangerous crumbling buildings in Detroit.

Included in the list is the vacant 14-story Wurlitzer Building, which Catallo reports "has been raining bricks and bits of mortar and concrete onto neighbors, alleys, and the People Mover track in front of the building."

Catallo confront the owners of the buidings, who don't seem to care.

The top seven crumbling buildings include: Book Tower, 1249-1265 Washington; 1265 Griswold; 115 State Street; Vinton Building, 600 Woodward;Charlevoix Hotel, 2029 Park; 2001 Park; The Wurlitzer Building, 1509 Broadway.

Her full report is slated for Monday night. - A.L.
