Dan Gilbert and Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores are investors in a football helmet manufacturer that has moved from Lowell, Mass., to Detroit, Crain's Detroit Business reports.

Bill Shea of Crain's writes that Gilbert's Rock Ventures has scheduled a press briefing for Tuesday to showcase assembly of Xenith LLC’s helmets at James Group International/Renaissance Global Logistics in Southwest Detroit.

Shea reports that Rock has invested an undisclosed sum in the company.

Crain's reports that Xenith was launched in 2004 by former Harvard University quarterback Vin Ferrara. He went on to get medical and business degrees from Columbia University, and is no longer with the company.
