Suddenly the Tigers have a dilemma with its starting pitching.

Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports that Alfredo Simon, who has been the most consistent starter in the rotation, is on the bereavement list to visit his gravely ill father in the Dominican Republic.

He was scheduled to pitch today in Oakland.

The Freep reports that left-hander Kyle Ryan has been called up from Triple-A Toledo to make the start, but it's not clear if he'll make it in time for the 3:35 p.m. game.

If he doesn't, Brad Ausmus will likely turn to the bullpen, possibly Alex Wilson, who was a starting pitcher coming up in the Red Sox organization, the Freep reports.

Left-handers Blaine Hardy and Tom Gorzelanny could also be called upon, the Freep reports.
