If you like authentic Southern-style cooking, check out Thursday night's pop-up dinner arranged by FoodLab Detroit.
"Chefs from Divine Thyme, DC Grind & Sha La Cynt’s Catering will be working together to translate recipes and traditions handed down to them through generations of black women," says Angela Dagle, membership director of the nonprofit group. They're "celebrating fresh, high-quality and local food showcasing the diverse culinary traditions of the American South."
This second in a series of Checker Bar pop-ups, which benefit the community of local food entrepreneurs, features a three-course meal that starts at 7 p.m. May 28. It's open seating, so guests can come later.
“Food and culture are inseparable and that history is always on the plate," says Devita Davison, FoodLab co-director. "We're excited to see these women meld their unique perspectives into one delicious meal to give us a taste of a few of the many stories from the American South.”
