A  4-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool Sunday afternoon, the Macomb Daily reports.

The paper reports that the boy and his family were visiting friends at a home on Winterfield near 19 Mile and Ryan roads.

The Macomb Daily reports that emergency workers were called shortly before 4 p.m. The boy was found unresponsive and not breathing.

The Detroit News reported that the boy wandered away from his family.

"It appears that they had an automatic vacuum (in the pool) and he might have seen that,” Sterling Heights Police Chief Michael Reese said, according to the Detroit News.. “He might have been looking at that and fell into the pool.”
