Dash cams on police cars record events and provide extremely helpful evidence for authorities.
But the police car that pursued a motorist who crashed into a bunch of people last week, killing two children, had no working dash cam, the Detroit Free Press reports.
"The dash cam was not operational," Detroit Police Chief James Craig said at a news conference Monday, according to Gina Damron. "It was an older marked scout car that a special operations unit was using."
Department policy on vehicular pursuits says: "Officers shall utilize in-car video equipment for all vehicular pursuits."
The department is investigating whether policies were followed.
