Matty Moroun's folks scored a victory Tuesday.

The Detroit City Council voted 7-2 to approve a controversial land transfer to the Moroun organization of three-acres of city-owned park land near the Ambassador Bridge, Louis Aguilar of The Detroit News reports. This helps clear the way for the billionaire to build a second bridge if he jumps all the daunting hurdles.

In exchange, Moroun's group agreed to improve city's  Riverside Park in southwest Detroit.

The Moroun people will invest about $3 million in Riverside Park, including building a baseball diamond, soccer field, picnic and fishing areas and a riverside promenade, the News reports. It will also give the city 5 acres of land in the area and could provide additional monies for park improvements in the futiure.

Moroun's organization also agreed to tear down its warehouse in the park, The News says.

Some hail the agreement, saying it will help improve the park and neighborhood. Opponents feel the city gave up too much for too little.
