A Bloomfield Township neighborhood's affection for its mailman who passed away last month was on display this week.

Paul Stenquist writes in the Oakland Press that dozens of neighbors and postal employees walked part of his route on Wednesday in honor of the beloved postal carrier, Reggie Bennett, who delivered mail there for 30 years.

The paper reports that Bennett, 54, was found dead in his Detroit home more than a month ago. His family suspected foul play, but the Wayne County Medical Examiner has said he died of natural causes.

The paper reports:

Along the route, others joined the group and by the time a torrential downpour soaked the walkers about a block from the finish line, there were at least 70 friends of Reggie walking his route.

The paper reports that Bennett's daughter is getting married Aug. 15, and some residents said they're sending her the bonus they would have given her father for the holidays.
