On a sunny, 81-degree day, several workers prepped and welded and measured things for hours before lifting a key part of the Fox Theatre marquee on Woodward Avenue around 3 p.m. Monday.
While the sign sat on the street, some people snapped photos.
The lifting took only minutes. The old marquee was nearly 30 years old. The new sign will have LED-lit reader boards to advertise current and upcoming shows.
Fairmont Sign Co. of Detroit is replacing the sign, expected to be finished in a few weeks.
