Two Metro Detroiters attending college in Daytona Beach, Fla., were shot and killed Thursday in an off-campus apartment by a male roommate they were apparently trying to evict, WFTV-9 reports. The suspected shooter was arrested Friday.

Ron Savage of Fox 2 reports that Diona McDonald, 19, of Southfield and Timesha Carswell, 21, of Inkster, who were fatally shot, were both singers and music majors at Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach. Another roommate, Micah Parham of Romulus, was shot and wounded during the confrontation.

Authorities on Friday arrested York Bodden, 26, who had been dating Timesha Carswell.

"Apparently, he was a roommate or started out as a roommate with the girls and our male victim," said Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood, according to WFTV. "Somewhere along the line, there was a dispute about not wanting him to be in there anymore. They tried to refund his first month's rent. He didn't take too kindly to that."

Police said Bodden left the apartment before returning to shoot everyone.

"What he did in that apartment, he basically assassinated the young ladies," Chief Chitwood said. "The young ladies were shot point-blank range. They were head shots. And our male victim in the hospital right now has at least three shots to the face and head area."

WFTV reports that another student, Sidney Washington, tried to wrestle the gun from Bodden, then jumped through a window and escaped the gunfire. He was not injured.

The shootings took place at the Carolina Club Apartment complex about four miles from campus, Fox 2 reports.
