Things aren't always safe inside a house of worship.
A 36-year-old pastor at The CIty of God on Grand River and Lahser in Detroit shot and killed Deante Smith, 25, who was armed with a brick during a Sunday service around 1:45 p.m. after he threatened parishioners, Nick Monacelli reports at WDIV.
The man, known by the congregation and pastor, reportedly stormed into the church carrying a brick.
The station reports that the pastor, who had tried to help the man in the past, shot the man multiple times with a Glock handgun. The man had threatened the pastor and congregation in the past.
"The suspect entered the church, he allegedly had a brick in his hand and was threatening the pastor," said Asst. Detroit Police Chief Steve Dolunt. "We've had a previous incident, at least one, and the pastor filed a police report."
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office will review the case.
