Shortly after the Cobo Center opened in 1960, the convention hall played host to the grand Detroit Auto Show.
The show, which unveiled 1961 model cars, attracted guests including former President Dwight Eisenhower and actress Marlene Dietrich.
In all, about one million people attended the show.
