Two Michigan cities have ruffled the feathers of Travel+Leisure readers.
After consulting readers, the magazine ranks Ann Arbor and Detroit as the 10th and 11th rudest cities in the U.S in a new survey. Maybe they're Michigan State fans?
Readers were asked to score how pleasant the locals are, if it's affordable to stay there and whether the city has a good selection of restaurants and parks. Here's what Travel+Leisure says:
11. Detroit, Michigan
Unsociable locals aside, Detroit is undeniably the country’s comeback kid. We called it one of the best places to travel this year, thanks to a boutique hotel boom, almost 100 new restaurants, and an attractive new riverfront park. And while readers called out locals for being rude, they raved just as much about the pizza and music scene. Watch out Nashville and New York.
10. Ann Arbor, Michigan
Ann Arbor residents may have come off as rude, but visitors also say they’re notably hip and intelligent. Hordes of students also make for excellent people watching. If you’re visiting Ann Arbor, you can get on locals’ good side by sporting a U of M sweatshirt or by discussing your experience at the Nichols Arboretum.
It appears readers can't handle the Miami heat, voting the city's locals the most rude in the country, followed by Phoenix, New York and Los Angeles.
