Kid Rock has donated $250,000 to the Detroit Historical Museum for an interactive music lab that will cover 100 years of Detroit music history.

The Kid Rock Music Lab will be one of the new core exhibits when the museum reopens Nov. 23 after renovations.

"The gift, Kid Rock's largest single donation, really speaks to his commitment and love of the city," Detroit Historical Society executive director Bob Bury told Susan Whitall of the Detroit News.

Rock recently bought a mansion on the Detroit River.

"He obviously shares our optimism, and the optimism many hold for Detroit's future," Bury said.
