Wojo's Final Twitter Scorecard: Lame, Tasteless, Offensive - 65%

September 11, 2016, 8:25 AM by  Alan Stamm

In a vaudeville tryout, Wojo would get the hook.

The Detroit News sportswriter also doesn't do well in a mocking poll that solicits reactions to criticism of that joke attempt.

Sixty-five percent of respondents feel he's unfunny, tasteless and offensive..

Social media polls aren't meaningful surveys because participants aren't randomly picked. And in this case, choices are loaded and the sample is tiny.

But hey, boys just wanna have fun. So my personal tweet is retweeted by Deadline in a playful spirit.

Maybe we're the tiresome ones, cranky and humorless. "Lighten up," defender Greg Thomas replies to a critic on Wojo's page, where nearly 100 people click "Like" under his hokey quip.

One of our readers suggests Saturday that the poll "is even cornier than the joke."

In any event, the funnyman himself is unrepentant, doubling down minutes after the first tweet:

Still, trolling for grins with "two older ladies . . . the bags were loaded" wordplay seems an odd shtick for a professional journalist -- even a sports columnist and even on a summer Friday.

These Twitter comments show we're not alone:

► Worth an unfollow. -- Ann Killion (@annkillion), San Francisco Chronicle sports columnist, replying to Wojnowski

► Same lame weekly articles. Stopped reading and haven't missed -- Gary Fuller (@gefull)

► Just unfunny. Never tasteless or offensive, just lazy and has been mailing it in for the past 5 years or so. -- Jeffrey (@jjorah)
