Kimberly Gil's jobs before journalism include driving a tractor-trailer truck and  and fueling planes.

You could see this coming a mile away.

WDIV announced Monday that reporter and anchor Kimberly Gill has been named the permanent anchor of Local 4 News for the  5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. broadcasts.  She will join veteran anchor Devin Scillian.

The news follows a recent announcement of Carmen Harlan's retirement. Her last newscast is Nov. 11.

“Since joining the Local 4 news team, Kimberly has done outstanding work out in the field covering stories like the shooting in Charleston, the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, the nightclub shooting in Orlando and reporting nightly on Local 4 News at 11 p.m.,” WDIV News Director Kim Voet said in a statement.

Since December 2015, Gill has anchored a 5:30 p.m. newscast and has been filled in on all evening newscasts, the station says in a release. Karen Drew will soon join Scillian at 5:30 p.m.

“Hiring Kimberly has been one of the best decisions that the station has ever made," Marla Drutz, vice-president and general manager of WDIV, said in a statement. "She is a true journalist, a compassionate storyteller and embodies the heart, work ethic and intelligence needed to tell the stories of Detroit."

Before joining WDIV, Gill worked as an anchor in Pittsburgh and Cleveland. She started her career at WBTW, the CBS affiliate in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Her jobs  before journalism include driving 18-wheelers for FedEx and fueling commercial and private aircraft for Eagle Aviation in Columbia, S.C. She has an undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina and a master's in business administration from Ashland University.
