It's a baby step, but obviously an important one.
The folks at M1-Rail, who operate the QLine, put the first train on the tracks on Tuesday morning for a test run. The train pulled out of the Penske Tech Station on its own, then hooked up to a massive tow truck that lugged it up and down the tracks.
Matt Cullen, CEO of the M-1 Rail, said the test was the first of 1,000 that will be conducted before the system is operational, hopefully in April.
Like nearly every other little milestone, the M1-Rail folks launched the maiden voyage with a lot of hoopla that included speakers like Mayor Mike Duggan and Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, who told Duggan the new streetcars have that "new car" smell.
