Video: VW's Eye-Catching 'Emotional' Autonomous Vehicle at the Auto Show

Volkswagen's eye-catching autonomous vehicle at North America International Auto Show in Detroit looks like a VW van ginned up for a new "Back to the Future" movie.

The bright yellow and silver, roomy electric concept microbus, dubbed the I.D. Buzz, has a cool steering wheel that retracts when an owner switches to self-driving. It holds eight passengers and has trunks in both the back and front. It's expected to hit U.S. roads next decade by 2024.

VW promotes it as "the most versatile and emotional electric car ever." Klaus Bischoff, executive director for design, says that the "emotional" part refers to  America's long love relationship America had with the VW bug and van.

Bischoff took time Monday to chat with Deadline Detroit about the new vehicle and demonstrate how the steering wheel works.
