Today’s guest on the One Seat Over podcast is NBA Hall of Famer Rick Barry.

He'll coach in the new BIG-3 basketball league this summer and details his approach in getting ready for the season. Ice Cube is a partner in the three-on-three, half-court summer league.

Here are a few highlights:

I think you know me well enough to realize that I’m not gonna go into this unprepared.  I will definitely have an entire philosophy.”

He also discusses the state of the NBA and why he sees no problem (unlike Charles Barkley and others) with All-Stars joining other elite players to form super-teams.

I don’t have a problem with wanting to be a champion.  The game is about winning championships, not your individual honors.”

Of course, we also get into free throw shooting and the continued struggles for Pistons’ fifth-year man Andre Drummond (last in NBA at 43%).

I don’t understand why guys have an aversion to trying my underhand method.  What’s the big deal about shooting it differently?  My youngest son [Canyon], down in the SEC right now, is shooting about 88.5 percent.  It works!”

There are few members of the basketball world with the level of knowledge that Rick Barry possesses, and he never hesitates to express any of his opinions.
