Leopold's book store in the Park Shelton apartment building near Wayne State is closing after three years.

Leopold's is a quirky place: It's small, but carries a wide range of modern literary gems, interesting magazines from around the world, street literature and books about Detroit.

Here is the letter from owners Greg and Sarah Lenhoff:

Friends,

This email marks our three year anniversary and we are so grateful for the amazing support you've given us since we opened our doors in late August of 2009. We've loved having you in our store to shop, debate, perform, and celebrate. You've given us things that we couldn't hope to give back and have really made us proud to call Detroit our home. With these experiences in mind, we're sad to announce that Leopold's will be permanently closed after Saturday, September 22nd, 2012.

Before we leave, though, we've got two things we'd like you to help us with. First, we've still got a store full of books! To help us get these books into the hands of readers like you, everything will be 50% off from now until we close. If there's anything you've had your eye on in here, now's the time to pick it up. Secondly, we're excited to invite you all to one last celebration in the store. We'd love for you to join us on Saturday, September 22nd from 5PM until we run out of drinks and/or books to help us send Leopold's out in style. We'll post more information about this last event on our Facebook page in the coming weeks.

It's been an amazing three years and we've loved being a small part of your lives. Thanks, again, for everything,

Greg and Sarah Lenhoff
