Come April, the QLine is expected to begin operating in Midtown and downtown Detroit The 3.3- mile Woodward Avenue system is a step in the right direction. Hopefully, it's the first step and not the last.
There was a time when Detroiters relied on streetcars to get places. That ended on April 8, 1956, a time when Mayor Albert Cobo led Detroit and Dwight Eisenhower was in the White House.
We came across a video of the last streetcar to run down Woodward before the system disappeared. The 8mm movie footage of the route's last run was shot at Woodward and Milwaukee.
Too bad Detroit' system was dismantled. Just think of what could have been.
