Update: As of about 9:15 p.m. people were continuing to show up and write messages on the walls.

The affection flowed in different forms.  Flowers. Warm emotions. Words of kindness written on makeshift walls set up on Monday at the front entrance of Comerica Park from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. to honor the top Tiger, Mike Ilitch, who passed Friday at age 87.

"Mr. I, Thanks you for giving me a second family in Little Caesars, and for everything you've done through your life," wrote one woman named Becky.

Another wrote: "Mr. I- Thank you for teaching all of us that kindness is our greatest strength. Was a pleasure working for you."

By about 4:45 p.m., roughly 200 people had written kind words on the wall and come to see the blown up  photos, some of them of Mike Ilitch and wife Marian, that conjured up warm feelings of Detroit and years gone by.

On Wednesday, a public visitation will be held in the Fox Theatre lobby from noon to 8 p.m.
