The Trump administration's focus on immigration triggers fear in ethnic communities.

Hamtramck in the past two decades has seen a significant influx of Muslims from refugee countries like  Bosnia, Bangledesh and Yemen.

Now Hamtramck Public Schools declares the district a ‘safe haven’ for students, which means it will try and protect students and their families from authorities trying to get information about their immigrant status, reports One Detroit. Other education administrators have done the same, including Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan.

One Detroit reports for the Detroit Journalism Cooperative on the developments and how Muslim students in Hamtramck are dealing with Trump’s recent executive orders affecting immigrants and refugees.
