Native Metro Detroiters Sam Richardson and Tim Robinson, stars of Comedy Central's "Detroiters," say local commercials for D.O.C. eyeglasses helped inspire the show.

On "Late Night with Seth Meyers" the other night, they mocked a classic early 1990s ad where optical chain chief executive Richard Golden dances while wearing "sexy specs." (Both videos are below.)

Richardson, who grew up in Detroit, also talks about working at his father's Outback Steakhouse on Greenfield Road in Southfield and how some customers complained about the steak after eating all but one bite. Robinson grew up in Clarkston.

"Detroiters" premiered Feb. 7. The show is executive produced by Lorne Michaels and Jason Sudeikis of "Saturday Night Live" fame. Sudeikis also portrays a Chrysler marketing vice president.

The show is about fledgling ad men Sam and Tim, who "may not have the money, connections or talent that the big guys do, but they have ambition out the wazoo. Together, they’re out to build a local advertising empire and restore their home city of Detroit to its former glory."
