On Monday night at the Pistons' game at the Palace, Flint's own Claressa Shields, the winner of multiple gold medals at the Olympics, encouraged people to come show support for her boxing match on Friday at the MGM Grand casino in Detroit  against former World Title Challenger Szilvia Szabados.

The two-time gold medalist the only American boxer, either male or female, to win back-to-back Olympic gold medals, will break another barrier on Friday when she becomes the first woman to headline a card on premium cable, Yahoo! Sports reports. Showtime will be airing the event.

The fight at the MGM Grand Detroit Event Center, begins at 10 p.m. The "undercard" fights begin at 7:30 p.m.

She will go up against Szabados,  who fought for the WBC super middleweight title on July 7, 2015, and lost in a unanimous decision to Nikki Adler in Germany.

Shields, 21, who won the Olympic gold medals in 2012 and 2016, sees this as an opportunity to promote women boxing.

“Women haven’t been given the opportunity,” Shields told Yahoo Sports. “This is a big opportunity to be on TV and give the fans the chance to see us and cling to us and like the way we fight. This is big.”
