March 16, 2017, 12:00 PM

The Jewish Federation of Greater Ann Arbor has raised more than $4,400 so far in a crowdfunding campaign to help repair the Ismlamic Center of Ypsilanti, which was destroyed in an arson attack last Saturday.

Most of the donations are between $18 and $100, many of them anonymous, reports the Jewish Telegraph Agency.

A 16-year-old boy was questioned as a suspect in the arson, as well as the arson a week earlier of a vacant house on the same block, reports the news agency.  He was released to his parents pending a decision on charges. Police do not believe the attack was a hate crime, according to reports.

The donation on Crowdrise states:

The mosque in Ypsilanti recently suffered a fire that has severely damaged the building. Several members of the Jewish community have inquired whether the Federation is doing anything to help.

The Federation will be accepting tax-deductible donations to help repair the mosque and show our support for those impacted. You can also call us (734-677-0100) or send a check to the Federation designating “Mosque fire” in the memo lin
