It's certainly early, but in the November election it could come down to the two most recognizable candidates for Detroit mayor: Incumbent Mike Duggan and challenger, state Sen. Coleman A. Young II, son of the late Mayor Coleman A. Young.
That's the prevailing wisdom now.
They're among eight candidates certified Thursday by the Detroit Election Commission for the Aug. 8 primary, Katrease Stafford of the Detroit Free Press writes.
The others are Danetta Simpson, Donna Marie Pitts, Curtis Christopher Greene, Edward Dean, Angelo Brown and Articia Bomer
Duggan is the front-runner currently, polls show. Young is expected to make race an issue
The Detroit Election Commission also certified seven city clerk hopefuls and two dozen council candidates, including former State Sen. Virgil Smith.
