The Detroit municipal incinerator has been the subject of lawsuits and dozens of emissions violations over the years. Citizens and organizations have raised health concerns.

Now it's the subject of an exhibit, “The Incinerator Show,” at Ocelot Print Shop, 3535 Cass Ave., from June 15-29. The opening reception is Thursday from 6-9 p.m.

The show is part of a protest against the garbage-burning site near the intersection of Interstate 94 and I-75, which is one of the world’s largest municipal trash-to-energy facilities in the world.

Activists claim it emits excessive pollution, including harmful toxins that contribute to Detroit’s high respiratory illness rates.

The two-week show explores questions about a compromised environment through photography, banners, pennants and other images. It will also include workshops for people to screen print their own images on T-shirts and other wearables.

Ocelot Print Shop is a collaborative, community-based screen print studio in the heart of the Cass Corridor which provides classes, work space and equipment to people including artists and T-shirt vendors.
