Midfielder Cyrus Saydee scored in the 57th minute Sunday night to clinch a return to the playoffs for Detroit City Football Club (DCFC).

The goal sealed a 2-1 win over rival Lansing United, guaranteeing Le Rouge, the club’s nickname, a berth in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) regional quarterfinals.

The Northern Guard supports Detroit City FC with an almost nonstop display of smoke bombs, banners, scarf-waving and chants.

It’s the first time DCFC has won on the road against Lansing United since the capital city club entered the league in 2014. The win also is Detroit City’s ninth consecutive victory, a streak that ended Tuesday night with a loss to Ann Arbor at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck.

Off-Field Action Too

In case you're not following the league , here's background:

Drawing crowds of thousands, DCFC games are often lively and entertaining, and not just on the field. The club’s supporters group, the Northern Guard, is one of the most passionate in the Midwest

DCFC is a minor league soccer team that plays in the NPSL, the fourth tier of American soccer. It was founded in 2012 by five passionate members of Detroit's soccer scene.

Since then, the Great Lakes division of the league Midwest Conference has grown substantially, with teams in Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Lansing and Kalamazoo.

The division has eight teams—six in Michigan, one in Wisconsin and one in Indiana—that play 14 regular season games from May to July. The top two teams in the division then enter into the NPSL playoffs, where they can eventually vie for the NPSL national championship.

NPSL rosters mostly consist of current college players, with a dash of young professionals and international semi-pro players. Several current or former players at Detroit Mercy, Saginaw Valley and Oakland University are on the DCFC roster.
