For Detroit City FC soccer fans, Saturday night was a big deal.

Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck hosted a sold-out crowd of 7,533 -- a record -- on a weather-perfect evening,. The impassioned Northern Guard fan base was rowdy and animated, as usual, for the contest against Midland-Odessa of Texas in the National Premier Soccer League semifinal.

At the end of regulation time, the score was 0-0. After 30 minutes of overtime, it was still 0-0.

Then came penalty kicks to settle the score. The Texas team's goalie made two saves, enough to deliver a 4-2 victory over Detroit. It was a dramatic ending to a stalemate.

After the game was over, the Texas team pranced around the field, egging on the people in the crowd, some of whom yelled obscenities.

It wasn't a picture-perfect ending, but it was a great season for the home team, founded in 2012.

It's the furthest Detroit has gone in a National Premier Soccer League season.
