Henry Roberson, a 74-year-old retired Ford worker, describes himself as a "tough old bird." The other day, he showed why.

Roberson was confronted in his driveway at 8 Mile Road and Greenfield last Friday morning by a gunman in a hoodie who told him: "Turn around. I'm going to rob you and take your money.'"

He'd been carjacked five years ago and didn't want to be a victim again, so he tells WDIV's Priya Mann he decided to grab the robber's gun.

"I made up my mind that he was going to shoot me," Roberson said. "It was me or him, and I was going to try to take his gun away from him. By the time I did that, pow. He shot me." The robber then ran off.

After calling 911, he called his children to say he'd been shot.

"I called them on the phone and told them I got shot," Roberson said. "They know I'm a tough old bird."

"I have a couple (of) crushed bones in my fingers," Roberson said. "They were going to put some pins in it today, but they changed their mind, and they said they would do surgery."
