Iconic skater Tony Hawk and Bedrock Detroit President Dan Mullen were among notables on hand Tuesday to unveil a free skateboard park and art installation at Farmer and Monroe, one block northeast of Campus Martius in downtown Detroit.

The skate park, called Wayfinding, officially opens at noon Wednesday.

After brief speeches, Hawk, who helped oversee the site design, showed his skills, as did others.

The project is a partnership between contemporary art gallery Library Street Collective, Dan Gilbert's Bedrock and Cranbrook Art Museum. Bedrock and the Quicken Loans family of companies financed the project.

The park will relocate next year when Bedrock begins developing the Monroe blocks, says Gabrielle Poshadlo, a spokesperson. It will move to an undetermined location.

The park opens at noon daily. It closes at 8 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and at 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
