Back in 1957, the Lions were doing quite well.
In fact, they ended up tied for the best record in the NFL Western Division at 8-4 and went on to win the conference title in a playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers 31-27.
They then won the NFL Championship, beating Cleveland 59-14.
In 1967, the NFL began playing in a Super Bowl against the AFL. The Lions have never played in that game.
In 1970, the NFL and AFL officially merged.
We came across this eight-minute video with highlights from that glorious season.
