The Amazon folks have plenty of proposals to mull over from around the country from cities trying to lure a second Amazon headquarters. Thursday was the deadline for proposals.

Dan Gilbert and a team of folks submitted a Detroit-Windsor proposal along with a three-and-a-half-minute video by Detroiter Stephen McGee that shows the city's grit, hipness, beauty, work ethic and spirit. The narrator is local poet and performance artist jessica Care moore.

The stirring video has been played more than 51,000 times on YouTube in two days.

At The Neighborhoods, a city government site, "chief storyteller" Aaron Foley reflects on the choice of moore, who uses that style for her name:

That a black woman from Detroit and still living in Detroit is the voice of this video . . . needs to be highlighted. I could hear moore talk about Detroit history all day. . . .

Let us listen more to moore, and all the fearless women of Detroit. And even if Amazon doesn’t pick us, it certainly won’t mitigate moore’s powerful words.
