A 22-year-old man who claimed he was God intentionally drove his car into veteran Oakland Sheriff's deputy Eric Overall on Thanksgiving morning and killed him after a 22-mile police chase, WXYZ reports.

Christopher Berak was arraigned Saturday and is held without bond.

It all began before midnight Wednesday.

Lapeer County officials say jail deputies observed a blue car pulling into a parking spot, Kim Russell reports. The man claimed he was God and he had come to  break out one of his followers. The man repeated that statement, saying he had claims on the prison's land.

He then fled and deputies began a chase, Russell reports. He was obeying speed limits and even using his blinkers. The suspect pulled over on M-69 westbound, locking his doors and windows and taking his seatbelt off, saying he was going to commit suicide by driving into a tree.

He then continued westbound to southbound M-15 and the pursuit entered Oakland County, where deputy Overall was laying down stop sticks -- devices that puncture tires -- at the intersection of M-15 and Seymour Lake Road.

Overall was standing on the side of the road when the suspect made a 90-degree turn and struck him, Lapeer County Sheriff Scott McKenna said.
