Demetrius Peels is wanted for questioning.

Another tragedy in the city becomes almost just another routine story in the media.

A 3-year-old boy was killed Wednesday around 7 p.m.  after he was shot in the face in an east-side apartment in the 11000 block of Rossiter, George Hunter of the Detroit News reports.

Investigators have turned to Demetrius Lorenzo Peels, 22, the boyfriend of the victim's mother, who  left the crime scene by the time police arrived. He's being called a person of interest.

"It appears the shooting happened inside the apartment,” said Officer Dan Donakowski. "There was a boyfriend and a 1-year-old baby also at the location when the shooting happened.

"We have the 1-year-old, but the boyfriend was not at the location when we arrived. We’re trying to find him now to question him. He's a person of interest in this case."
