A new poll shows Republican Attorney General Bill Schuette leading former Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer by a statistically insignificant margin of three percentage points in the 2018 race for governor, Paul Egan of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Earlier, EPIC-MRA of Lansing conducted a head-to-head match-up and they were tied 37% to 37% in August. Although Whitmer slipped a bit in the latest EPIC-MRA poll, she remains well-positioned because she is within the 4-percentage-point margin of error despite a lack of name recognition, polling firm president Bernie Porn tells the Freep.
At this point, Schuette and Whitmer are the front-runners. The attorney general has greater name recognition and receives positive attention by investigating Flint's water crisis.
