Ferndale Brewery Tweaks Trump with 'One of the Most Powerful Beers in the World'

January 10, 2018, 7:40 PM by  Alan Stamm

"Yup, we went there," Axle Brewing confesses boasts on its Facebook page with this advance promotion of a timely brand extension.

A post from the three-year-old Ferndale business adds:

"Sometimes a great beer name comes in your sleep or on a hike. And once in a great while [it comes] when you hear a story on the radio and the beer you are drinking shoots out of your nose. This was the latter. Coming soon."

The inspiration, obviously, is this widely mocked claim last Saturday, the last in a three-tweet series from a non-drinker whose beverage of choice is Diet Coke:

"It's going to be huge, but also very limited," the suburban Detroit brewer posts pointedly. "It's one of the most powerful beers in the world, yet incredibly delicate, even fragile."

Presidential pokes also flow in comments by Axle president Dan Riley at First Draft, a Detroit News beer blog:

"The beer itself really defies conventional logic and rational explanation. It's like, really delicious."

News reporter Melody Baetens writes that Riley "describes the beer as having an 'ethereal orange hue' . . . and just a subtle hint of lunacy."

Sounds like beer with a big head, familiar tartness and bitter aftertaste.

We all can toss one back "soon" at the company's seven-month-old taproom and restaurant, Livernois Tap, at 567 Livernois in Ferndale. "We made 1,000 barrels," the brewery says in a tweet to Deadline Detroit, adding:
