Michigan native Mitt Romney, who ran unsuccessfully for president against Barack Obama in 2012, is running for U.S. Senate in Utah.

"I am running for United States Senate to serve the people of Utah and bring Utah's values to Washington," Romney wrote on Facebook Friday morning. He grew up in Bloomfield Hills and eventually went on to become governor of Massachusetts.

Romney, son of the late Michigan Gov. George Romney, who has been an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, posted a two-minute video on Facebook noting that Utah has welcomed "legal immigrants from around the world” while “Washington sends immigrants a message of exclusion.”

The remarks appeared to be a thinly veiled swipe at Trump.

While being an outspoken critic of Trump, Romney humiliated himself by applying for the Secretary of State job in the Trump administration, which he never got.

His niece, Ronna Romney McDaniel, is chair of the Republican National Committee.

At Trump's request, she dropped  Romney in her name while representing the GOP. It was an obvious swipe at her uncle.
