Craig Fahle: "I wanted to be on the leading edge."

Annalise Frank of Crain's Detroit Business breaks the news, as her publication does regularly. She posts:

The host of an influential talk-radio show . . . and former Detroit Land Bank Authority spokesman is getting back to his media roots. But now he's maneuvering to an online platform that is gathering familiar Detroit radio names.

Starting Monday, Fahle will host an hour-long "Craig Fahle Show" weekdays 11 a.m.-noon on New Radio Media.

The online studio launched this month in Farmington Hills. It streams video programs live . . . on its website and mobile app. Broadcasts are also available archived, like with a podcast.

Fahle, who announced in January that he was quitting city government after three and a half years, had been a program manager at the public radio station from 2007-14 and earlier as a reporter and anchor from 1996-05. He's a graduate of Grosse Pointe South High ('85) and Western Michigan University ('90).

The 50-year-old tells Crain's the new show will offer "rational conversation about complex issues." It'll focus on politics, arts, business, culture and other news and include audience voices via calls and social media. Metro Detroit and Michigan are the main scope, but the host expects to talk about topics such as the president, Congress, school shootings and other timely stuff .

A recent tweet shows his eagerness:

The former broadcaster tells Frank why he switches from radio to an online platform:

"All of the momentum is going in the streaming category. I wanted to be on the leading edge, as opposed to on the trailing edge."

The Oakland County business brands itself as "bringing a classic into the modern world" and defines its niche this way:

  • It’s live radio that’s also video.
  • It’s podcasts you can hear and see.
  • It’s television that’s live with audience participation.
  • It’s live streaming. It’s on demand. There’s an app.
  • It’s everywhere – on your smart phone, tablet, computer.
