Motor City Match Winners Include a Vinyl Record Shop, Grocer and Bakery

A beauty school, bakery and old-school record shop are among winners of the Motor City Match Round 11, which distributes $500,000 each quarter to city businesses.

Grants announced Thursday go to 11 businesses and a building owner.

“I couldn’t be opening my business without the assistance of Motor City Match,” said Marlene Brooks, owner of Dymond Designs Beauty School at 3300 E. Jefferson Ave., which gets $65,000.

  • The Upperow –5734 Woodward Ave., $40,000
  • The Millionairess LLC –19434 Livernois Ave., $30,000
  • Hustlers Wife – 15715 Warren Ave., $30,000
  • Spot Lite – 2905 Beaufait St., $40,000
  • Petty Cash Kitchen + Cocktail Bar – 20050 Livernois Ave., $50,000
  • Brewery Faisan – 1087 Beaufait St., $60,000
  • Chene Street Grocers –5200 Chene St., $50,000
  • Grandmont Rosedale Development Corporation – 19566 Grand River Ave., $50,000

Motor City Match is a partnership between the city of Detroit, the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, the city's Economic Development Corporation and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Grant money is contributed by financial institutions, foundations and corporations.
