Former WJBK reporter and anchor Joe Weaver, who was a solid on-air presence for decades on Detroit TV, died from congestive heart failure and kidney failure at 89, Fox 2 reports.
Weaver worked at the station from the 1960s to the 1990s. He began before it was FOX 2 and covered some of the biggest stories of the times, including the the aftermath of the 1967 riots.
"So sad to learn of the passing of Joe Weaver-former WJBK TV labor and auto editor," tweets veteran broadcaster Murray Feldman. "Joe was the dean of auto reporters-mentor to many-award winning reporters, who also documented the miracles of Fr. Solanus Casey-The Road to Sainthood . Thank you Joe for all that you gave us!!"
