A man was fatally shot by Royal Oak Police early Monday morning following a dispute involving his parents, WXYZ reports.

Police responded to a 911 call shortly after 3 a.m. in  the 1000 block of Hoffman, the station reports. Police say the caller told 911 she was stabbed by her son, who also hit his father in the head with a guitar.

The 20-year-old son, identified as Cody Reynolds, was spotted by an officer walking in the area of the home after the call.

Police got out of the vehicle and ordered Reynolds to stop, and he "very abruptly got on the ground, but then quickly rushed towards the officer in an aggressive manner," the station says.

Police say the officer fired while backing up, striking Reynolds. The parents were treated at the hospital but did not suffer serious injuries.
